NW Salmon Derby Series Debuts 2018 Boat and Schedule

The Everett No-Coho Blackmouth Derby was held Nov. 4-5 that drew 499 anglers who caught 109 chinook averaging 6.22 pounds (146 fish were caught last year averaging 6.55 pounds). About 70 percent of the fish were caught on first day due to the lousy weather conditions by second day. The winner was Adam Burke who caught an 11.89 chinook and took home a check for $4,000.

The winner of the Northwest Salmon Derby Series grand prize $85,000 fully-loaded Hewescraft boat with Honda motors went to Gary March of Worley, Idaho who fished earlier this summer in The Big One Salmon Derby on Lake Coeur d'Alene. In all more than 4,000 anglers were entered in 14 derbies. The story on March is truly a must read, and can be found at NMTA's Blog.

Looking toward 2018 we've got some exciting news as we introduce a derby to the series, and our new grand prize boat will be a KingFisher 2025 Falcon Series powered with a Honda 150hp and 9.9hp trolling motors on a EZ-loader galvanized trailer and fully rigged with Scotty downriggers, Raymarine electronics, WhoDat Tower and a Dual Electronics Stereo—a $65,000 value.

The 15 derbies in the series starts off with the Resurrection Salmon Derby on Jan. 5-7 in Anacortes.

KingFisher Pro Staff Dave Bennett scores first place at the Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament

Dave Bennett has been chasing a first place win at the Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament for over five years. In 2017, after years of near misses, hard work, perseverance, passion for the sport and a little bit of luck scored him the top position this year with a total weight of 50.85.

With 129 teams to contend with Dave's win is a testament to his focus and dedication to sportfishing. Dave Bennett has been on the tournament scene for over 14 years. With major wins in every multi-species category including walleye, musky and small mouth bass. Dave and his partner Mark are the only pair to have won the Kenora Bass International, Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament and Fort Francis Canadian Bass Championship.

With that kind of success, we had to ask… What's his secret?

"A lot of different things go into having a successful tournament, there's no secret. To be a successful angler you need to take the information presented to you and apply it to your own experience.

In my opinion, My KingFisher 2025 Flex SP is the ultimate big water multi-species fishing boat. It's incredibly versatile and gets you where to need to go. With the strength and durability behind KingFisher construction combined with my Mercury Verado engine my KingFisher gets me where the fish are.

When you're fishing on open water, like Lake Michigan, it's important to know that your boat can handle that big wake. Understanding the biology of the fish is important in understanding their behavior. Getting in a good spot, and letting the fish come to you is key.

The Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament is something I've worked towards for a long time, looking forward to the rest of the 2017 season!"

Congratulations Dave on your huge win!

KingFisher Welded Sportfishing Boats Introduces Cutting Edge Technology

The Center of Excellence in Vernon acquires MultiCam 7000 Series Router

Vernon, BC - KingFisher Boats is excited to introduce new state-of-the-art technology to its manufacturing toolkit, the MultiCam 7000 Series Router. The router has improved safety features, reduces carbon emissions and increases precision in cutting and forming.

"This technology improves our already high caliber cutting and forming process" stated Mike Clements, Operations Manager. "This upgrade reflects our mandate to create an excellent work environment that utilizes technological advancements while producing a high quality, consistent hulls."

The MultiCam 7000 Series replaces plasma technology and puts employee health and safety at the forefront. The router uses precise cutting tools instead of fusion which reduces emissions and pollutants. Most importantly, automated 'off' switches and large bumpers are safety tools in place to protect employees. The 8 by 30 foot aluminum sheets are suctioned to the router using vacuum technology, to minimize slipping, improve safety and increase precision.

"This new system supports our mandate to provide safe working conditions while increasing our capacity," said Brad Armstrong, President. "We achieved an increase in market share over the past year. This new technology also gives us the opportunity to get our boats to market faster."

The MultiCam 7000 Series works in conjunction with the CNC nesting program to cut each unique piece that goes into a KingFisher Boat. The nesting hardware increases sheet utilization with an average 98 per cent of each sheet being used. More than precise, the router is efficient—cutting an impressive 528 inches per minute over a 240 sq. ft. surface.

This efficiency has allowed the team at KingFisher to implement a new tab and slot system, which means each boat will be developed faster, more precisely and have near perfect consistency for each model.
